Reynold's Raptor's News #24

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is happy and well this week!  January was a record breaking cold for Utah, since 1949.  I guess that's why there's been so much sickness!  I'm looking forward to spring!!
Science Fair: All 4th graders are required to do a "Science Fair" project.  The yellow paper I sent home last week, needs to be signed by you and returned by Friday, February 15.  If your child doesn't submit the paper on time, they will not be able to be judged.  The science fair project doubles as an Informational Book Report., for March. Those not participating in the judging, will still need to present their project to the class!  Sad thing! Last year, I had three students who didn't turn their paper in on time, so weren't able to participate in the judging. When they presented to the class, their projects, were some of the best ones out there. They, and I, wished they could have been judged.
This project is a prerequisite for what your child will do in 5th grade.
Valentine's Day: I'm sending home a class list today.  We will be making our Valentine containers in class.  Students will pass-out their Valentines to the class, on Thursday. We have 24 students.
Spelling: Calf, walked, ghost, gnawed, climber, wreath, listen, island, scent, wrench, judge, fasten, wrist, doubt, knock, answer, knelt, sign, percolation, precipitation.
We have our top two competitors for the school wide Spelling Bee! Congratulations Jacee Brunson and Jennifer Bulloch!  We actually had to test four of our students four times to get the top two. Jinger Holyoak, Luke Armstrong, were in the top four! Congratulations to each of you!
Science: The Water Cycle, and Fish.
     Social Studies: Mountain Men
Math: Spiral of Double Digit Multiplication, Long Division, Fractions, Improper Factions, Mixed Numbers, Adding and Subtracting Fractions. Changing Fractions to Decimals. Reducing Fractions.
Son's of The Utah Pioneers Essay Contest:  I hope you are helping your child with this project. I'm looking forward to reading about your ancestors.  This is a prerequisite to what your child will do in 5th grade.
President's Holiday: Monday, February, 18th. No school!!
Thanks for all that you do to support me, teaching your child. I love them, and want them to be successful!  Your support is vital!! Thanks Again! Karla

Reynold's Raptor's News #23

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is well! We've sure had a lot of sickness!  I apologize for not sending home last quarter's progress record. Our school printer has been down for repairs since we returned after New Years, and now the Power School is down and I can't submit assignments.  Thank goodness the blog still works!!!  I will get those out to you as soon as the machines allow me to.
Because of the temperature and weather conditions, we were unable to attend the Annie production!  Sorry!  We had a wonderful presentation  by a local Mountain Man, Larry Bilyeu, and his wife Crystal.  They came dressed authentically with lots of stories and items to share and tell us about.  We were happy to have them come.
I sent home "Son's of The Utah Pioneer Essay Contest Rules," to those interested.
This project is only available to 4th and 5th graders.  There is a cash award for the winners.  I hope you will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, helping your child learn about his/her family history.
The Inventions  were amazing!! Thank you for your help with this science project!!! We had a lot of fun with this.
Book Report: This month's book report will be from a Caldecott Award winner.  Due February, 28.  Your child should have checked out a book from the library already. They will make a diorama and display it in the library.
Math: We are still struggling to do Double Digit Multiplication and Long Division.  Anything you can do at home to help your child with these concepts would be great!!!
Science: Fish and The Water Cycle
     Social Studies: Mountain Men
Utah Common Core: In order to take the end of level tests this year, your child will need a personal email address. I will send home permission slips this week.  We are short a lab of computers, and will be using a "Krone" (Similar to a laptop) for part of the testing.
Reading: We are reading, "Snow Treasure" By Marie McSwigan as a class. Students read thirty minutes in reading groups everyday. Thank you for continuing to read at home. Thirty minutes each day. Have a great week!!!
